Dutton Combines Arbor Day Celebration with Tree Care Workshop

By Mayor Susan Fleshman

482197365_6c19f0d043_m The Town of Dutton is sponsoring a yard and fruit tree care workshop Thursday, April 19, to go along with the celebration of Arbor Day. Mark Lennon, Community Forester for the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, will conduct the workshop.  This is a good time of year to be thinking about pruning trees and the Town encourages homeowners, city officials and tree care professionals to attend. The workshop will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the American Legion Hall in Dutton.

The session will be devoted to pruning and planting principles that encourage the development of strong and healthy trees.  It will be held indoors, with hands-on pruning and planting exercises held outside later in the afternoon. The Town of Dutton will provide a tree that will be planted as a training exercise.

Lennon will cover the reasons for pruning, when to prune, structure training for young trees and tree planting tips to improve survival.

Handouts on pruning and tree care will be available.

For more information contact the Town of Dutton office at (406) 476-3311.
