Town Council Approves Summer Program, Hires Lifeguards, and Mayor Looks For Replacement for Councilman McDunn

The Dutton Town Council in May approved the Summer School Program to use the Pool & Rec Park again this summer. The school program begins June 16th and runs through July 31st. The Council also reviewed applications and hired 3 general summer help employees and 4 lifeguards.

Councilman Dave McDunn announced that he would be moving to Bozeman. Mayor Fleshman will appoint another community member to complete his term.

Minutes from the May meeting:

Mayor Fleshman called the meeting of May 5, 2008 to order at 7:30 pm at the Dutton Town Hall

Present: Fleshman, Tharp, McDunn, DeMars, Dauwalder, Schoonover, Steve Madsen, Kathy DeMars, & Grahm DeMars               

Minutes of April 7th, 2008 were read and approved as read

Motion by Dauwalder, Second by Tharp, carried to pay claims as reported:
Claims are listed on the Official Minutes at Town Hall.

Mayor’s Report          
Mayor Fleshman reported that the setscrews on the south pump needed to be replaced.  Sewer Lagoon cell two has been dumped and we are transferring cell one now.  The windmill on the north side is not working and Kronebusch Electric has ordered the parts needed and will be down to fix it.  Cell one needs to have the south bank built up. Ernie will be coming the week of the 19th of May to help Behm repair this and gravel the road to the lagoon.  Dish TV will be here to hook up the Senior Citizens Center, our rental and the Town Office.    Councilman McDunn informed the Mayor he will be resigning from the Dutton Town Council as he and his wife Kathy are moving to Bozeman. The Mayor will find a community member to complete his term. Mayor Fleshman will fill in for McDunn on the Teton County Planning Board.  We have been reseeding grass where it is needed and Lanny Christman is working on the sprinkler systems in the parks.  The Mayor would like to have the batting cage poles removed, as the batting cage is no longer being used.  Cement picnic tables will be placed in this area.

Brandvold Construction Application
Motion by DeMars, Second by McDunn, carried to approve Brandvold’s construction application for an addition on the north and south side of his house.

Campbell Construction Application
Motion by DeMars, Second by McDunn, carried to approve Campbell’s construction application to build a ramp on the front (east) side of his home.

Summer School Program June 16 – July 31
Kathy Demars reported that the Summer School Program would run from June 16 through July 31 except for the week of July 14th, when the churches hold Bible School.  The school would like to use the park again and the program holds summer school Monday through Thursday. Their field trips would be on Thursdays.  The Council approved the school summer program to be held at the recreational park.

Summer Employment
The Council reviewed the summer employment applications. Motion by McDunn, Second by Dauwalder; DeMars abstained, Motion carried to hire Grahm DeMars, Ben Ward and Samantha Carter. 

The Council reviewed the summer swim pool applications. Motion by McDunn, Second by DeMars, Motion carried to hire Carissa Storle as head lifeguard; Stacy Pilgeram, Ellie Duty and Emily Smith as lifeguards.

Upcoming Events
Up coming events are as follows:

  • Fire Hydrants will be flushed on Tuesday May 13th by the Fire Department starting at meeting time
  • Arbor Day will be celebrated on May 14, 2008
  • Dog Days will be May 19th from 2-5pm at the town shop. 
  • The pool clean up will not be Saturday May 17th as DeMars will be out of town.  The town will start pumping the pool on Monday May 12, 2008 and will try to clean it during regular working hours.

Public Comment
There were no public comments

Council Comment 
Tharp reported that on May 2, 2008 the school had a very successful clean up day with cleaning of both parks, picking up garbage around town and the road to the Café.  They were also able to pick up the interstate one mile both directions of the Dutton turn off.  He reported the school sign will be installed on May 9th on the EMS property and the EMS fundraiser has been rescheduled for June 1, 2008.

The Mayor adjourned the meeting at 9:05pm.
